StemSplitPro Is Live

Every Tuesday I ship something. This week it is StemSplitPro, a Mac app that pulls the vocals, drums, bass, and instruments out of any song without uploading a single byte.

Stem separation used to mean handing your music to a website, waiting on a server, and paying a monthly fee to download the result. StemSplitPro does the whole thing on your Mac. Drag in a track, and a few seconds later you have each part as its own clean stem.

How it works

Import any MP3, WAV, AIFF, M4A, or FLAC. Choose how many stems you want: 2 for a simple vocal and instrumental split, or 4 and 6 to break out drums, bass, guitar, piano, and everything else. Then pick a quality mode and let the on-device AI do the work.

Three quality modes let you trade speed for fidelity. Fast is a single quick pass for when you just need the idea. Balanced runs a fine-tuned model for cleaner separation. Best runs an ensemble of four models for a master-quality split when it counts.

When it finishes, you can solo, mute, and play back every stem to hear exactly what you got. Previewing is always free. When you are happy with the split, export any stem as WAV, AIFF, or M4A, or send every stem out at once as a single ZIP straight into your DAW.

Separation runs on Apple’s MLX framework, and the models ship inside the app. There is nothing to download or set up, and there is no account to create.

Why I built it

The existing options all had the same problems. The good web tools upload your audio to a server, which is slow and means your music leaves your machine. They also tend to be subscriptions, so the moment you stop paying you lose access to a tool you have already learned. I wanted a native Mac app that runs locally, respects your privacy, and can be a one-time purchase if you want it to be.

On a modern Apple silicon Mac, the separation is genuinely fast, and because it never touches the network, it works on a plane or anywhere else with no connection.

Pricing

Separating and previewing stems is free and unlimited, and your first three exports are free too, so you can hear the quality before you decide. To export beyond that, Pro unlocks unlimited exporting. There is a one-time $34.99 lifetime purchase for people who are done with subscriptions, or $4.99 weekly and $19.99 yearly options if you only need it for a project. No account, no cloud, no tracking on any plan.

StemSplitPro requires macOS 14 and an Apple silicon Mac. Get it on the Mac App Store, or read more at stemsplitpro.com.
